What is linseed oil?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Linseed oil comes from mature flaxseeds that have been cold pressed to extract the oil.<\/p>\n

Linseed oil is commercially available in capsule form and in liquid form. It contains a type of omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).<\/b><\/p>\n

The body uses flaxseed ALA and converts it in small amounts to other fatty acids, such as eicosidexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid.<\/p>\n

Similar to flaxseed, linseed oil can help lower cholesterol levels. ALA in flaxseed may play a role in lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol.<\/p>\n

In a small study<\/a> of 15 adults, participants consumed either flaxseed or corn oil once a day with dinner.<\/p>\n

The researchers measured participants’ cholesterol levels at the beginning of the study and again 12 weeks later.<\/p>\n

Those who consumed corn oil had no change in their cholesterol levels, while those who consumed flaxseed had a significant reduction in LDL.<\/p>\n
