Avocado is a fruit rich in vitamins and minerals and that is why it is very nutritious for our body. It is said to have first appeared in southern Mexico and was widely cultivated from Brazil to Peru long before the arrival of Europeans in Latin America. Today avocados are grown commercially in the USA, in the tropical Caribbean islands, in Australia, South Africa, Israel, Egypt but also in southern Spain, France and Crete. Some of the most important properties of avocado are its content of protein and unsaturated fats, which are important for the skin. Avocado oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, known from fish oil. Avocados are also high in a substance called sterolin. Studies have shown that this substance facilitates the softening of the skin and reduces the appearance of blemishes and the signs caused by time. Avocado oil is rich in antioxidants, making it useful for healing sun-damaged skin. Antioxidants, as well as vitamins A, D and E can make the skin more supple as it allows it to rejuvenate dry or aging skin. Avocado vegetable oil also contains lecithin and potassium, which are especially beneficial for the skin as well as the hair. When applied, avocado oil increases the production of collagen, which helps keep skin hydrated and reduce the effects of aging.
