Agave ( Agave tequiliana ) is a cactus plant grown in the deserts of Mexico. Agave syrup is extracted from the leaves of the plant after special treatment (hydrolysis). The wonderful taste of the syrup is slightly reminiscent of honey and caramel . Ideal alternative to sugar and processed sweeteners. It is ideal for pancakes and ice cream, for breakfast and yogurt.

Agave syrup is a sweetener derived from the Mexican agave cactus. Due to its almost neutral taste it is an excellent substitute for sugar and honey . Its sweetening ingredients are glucose , fructose and inulin , thanks to the latter it has a low glycemic index lower than honey.

Used to sweeten drinks and sweets. To make the syrup, agave is harvested at 7-10 years of cultivation. The juice obtained from the pulp is then processed at temperatures below 45 ° C.

The dark agave syrup is less filtered and the solid particles retained in it give it a delicious taste that is sometimes reminiscent of maple syrup . The taste of the syrup, however, is very delicate and much weaker than in honey.

Due to the high amount of fructose, it is recommended to consume a maximum of 15g / day. It is ideal for making moderate coffee, tea and cold drinks (easily dissolved).

Way of use:

It can be used for sweetness instead of sugar or honey in hot drinks. It is not right to combine with carbonated drinks. Suitable even for baked goods ( caramelized like sugar).

Agave syrup is about 40% sweeter than refined sugar , so use about half the amount you’re used to with sugar or honey.
