Lemon balm seems to be an herb with many uses – clinical studies identify more and more of its properties. In modern herbal medicine, Lemon balm is mainly used to treat disorders of the nervous system as well as to prevent the development of ulcers. Lemon balm is anxiolytic (has antidepressant action) and mildly sedative. Its consumption helps to deal with stress and hypertension, while at the same time it is effective in cases of insomnia. Clinical studies have shown that this action is mainly due to the rosmarinic acid contained in the herb (and not to the essential oils as many claim).
